The Many Pretty Faces of Ulorin Vex

Submitted by admin on August 18, 2009 – 2:00 am7 Comments

Versatility to us translates to sexy – especially when it comes to the various talents that model and illustrator Ulroin Vex possesses. Although she’s highly noted for the fiery red colour of her hair, red is only one tone in Ulroin’s spectrum of personalities and abilities. Enjoying life to the fullest, she gracefully continues to put her stamp on erotic culture both as model and illustrator.

Tell us how you first became a model.
I get asked this a lot! I actually find it quite hard to answer as I can’t really remember how it all took off. I emailed a local photographer and asked if he would take some photos of me, then I put those online and eventually people started asking me to model for them. It took a bit of practice until I was any good at it and started to be noticed.

You really have a magnificent range of personalities that you display in your portfolio. We see a softer delicate side in many of your artistic nudes as well as a powerful alt vixen full of expression. Do you find it important to show your versatility and why?
For me, versatility is so important. I’ve had one or two photographers tell me that having too many looks or working in too many genres isn’t a good thing, and that it’s better to specialize in one area. I don’t really agree with that. It might work for some models, but I can’t imagine just having one style. One of the best things about modeling is being able to play a character or change my appearance. I also enjoy the challenge of being successful in widely different modeling genres.

Which personality is closest to the real Ulorin Vex and why?
Probably the one that pulls silly faces.. I don’t take myself too seriously. But I have different sides, I think there is a bit of all the personalities in me somewhere.

We read that you have a large collection of latex clothing and corsets. Sounds to me like you’re a shopaholic, right? Tell us about your love and fascination for both latex and corsets.
I do love shopping. What girl doesn’t? I spend most of my money on clothing other than latex/corsets. And a lot of shoes! It’s pretty bad really. I always love all the gorgeous clothes that I get to model for catalogues and can never resist payment in clothes, which is where a lot of my latex comes from. Saying that, I do have quite a few latex pieces that I’ve commissioned from designers that I’ve worked for. I think it’s important to support independent designers. I don’t like it when models expect everything for free. I tend not to wear latex very often unless it’s for a photoshoot or fetish event. I love the way skin tight latex looks but as far as parties and clubs go, I don’t like being so hot and dripping with sweat (laughs). Corsets again, I love them for their aesthetic value. A well made corset is a piece of art. I already have quite an unusual waist-to-hip ratio and I love the extreme hourglass shape I can get.

Name a few photographers that you’d like to work with in the future.
First one is David LaChapelle; it’s a bit of a cliché, but I don’t care, he deserves it. I love the sense of humour and bizarre stories in his work. Another would be Erwin Olaf, probably for similar reasons.

What’s been the most challenging part of your modeling career?
The only thing that immediately springs to mind is being able to handle criticism and gossip. It is inevitable that some people won’t like the way you look and that’s never bothered me, but I used to find it upsetting to read people saying unkind and untrue things about me as a person. I realized quite quickly that I shouldn’t let stuff like that bother me though and kept on doing what I enjoyed.

And the most rewarding part of it?
Getting to be a part of the creative process and being happy with the end results is always rewarding. I’ve also made some really good friends through traveling and shooting. In fact, I think all of my closest friends have been made through modeling.

We spotted a few photos of you as a brunette. Obviously it was a wig. You looked quite delicious. Would you ever consider being anything but a distinct fiery red-head?
I do have a couple of wigs I wear every now and then, but actually when I first started modeling I had jet black hair. I only went red not long after when I developed an allergy for black hair dye (laughs). I’m kind of glad about that though. I can’t imagine being anything but a red-head now, at least not for long! I sometimes get other colours for hair modeling jobs, but I change back to ginger as soon as I can afterward.

You’re also an extremely talented artist and illustrator who goes under the moniker of Malady Charlotina. Who is Malady Charlotina and what is she all about?
Malady Charlotina is a play on words of the name of a character from one of my favourite books The Dancers at the End of Time by Michael Moorcock. I think I’m a bit too fond of making up aliases for myself! But, I think it suits my artwork.

As an illustrator, where would you like to see your career go?
I have so little time for my artwork recently; I’m always traveling for photo shoots and don’t have much time to sit down and concentrate on finishing drawings. But eventually I’m going to concentrate more on it. I’d love to be able to make a living from illustrating books and other such things, but I’m not happy enough with the quality of the work I produce right now. I would like to improve before I start thinking seriously about my art career.

To simply put it, you seem to be motivated by creativity. Tell us who and what inspires you (past or present.
Life! Everything around me; anything and everything that is beautiful or unusual. Seeing the world!

Take us through UlorinVex.Com and what we can find on the site.
It’s really just a large portfolio site! I have quite a large gallery section divided into the main styles I work in (art nude, fetish/latex, fashion, portraits etc) with loads of images. Probably too many really but I’m not very good at deciding what should stay and what should go; I like them all! There’s also a small ‘about me’ section, mainly for people who might be looking to book me, and then there’s the CV/credits page which has an extensive list and scans of all my published work.

Finish this sentence for us. In 10 years Ulorin Vex will be….
Enjoying life, as always.
